New York Fashion Week September 2018

Buzz, excitement, photographers, paparazzi, who’s who, glamour, style.

I am attending New York Fashion Week (NYFW) for JMK Style – The Business of Fashion.

Prior to the start of the “shows” Launch Parties get New York Fashion week started, this is where I met and mingled with industry insiders, guests and celebrities. Meeting, greeting and making industry connections.

New York Fashion Week happens twice a year and this year and I have just attended the Spring Summer 2019 shows. Buyers, Stylists, Designers, Editors, and bloggers are all here to be the first to see the collections for the next season, or in the case of Australia two seasons away.

I arrive at the venue, “greeted” by a frenzy of photographers ready to capture the latest street style, it was surreal and crazy! There are photographers from just about every fashion news source and they are there from the start of each day until the end capturing every look imaginable. These are the photos that you see appear in the likes of Vogue with their NYFW street style overview (I’m not sure if my photo made the cut!)

Fashion week shows are primarily invitation only events. I take my assigned “VIP” seat and watch as room is then flooded with guests and photographers all vying to capture a photo of the “who’s who” of the converted front row which is generally reserved for the heavy weights of the industry like celebrities, press, bloggers and buyers. The atmosphere is buzzing, excitement fills the air in anticipation of the shows!

The lights dim, the music starts, and the runway becomes a theatre filled with striking outfits and models that illuminate the room!

As the shows come to an end and the models flood the runway, the designer takes a bow and the room erupts with applause and celebration, this is pure entertainment and so much more than a runway show.

I attended many shows and was so impressed by the diversity, inclusion and sustainability of the designers and their shows.

Fantasy to functionality, sexy to sophisticated, grunge to glamour, New York Fashion Week had it all!
